Collapse of Metro Pillar in Mulund Results in One Death and Multiple Injuries
A section of a metro construction pillar in Mulund, Mumbai, collapsed on February 14, 2026. The incident caused one death and injured three others. Authorities have taken action and started an investigation to find out what caused the collapse.
On February 14, 2026, a serious accident happened during the construction of the Metro Line 4 in Mulund, Mumbai. A part of a concrete wall, called a parapet segment, fell from a pillar that was still under construction. The fall happened around 12:20 in the afternoon. The person who died was named Ramdhan Yadav. He was 55 years old. The three people injured are named Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, who is 45 years old and is in critical condition. Mahendra Pratap Yadav, aged 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, aged 40, are both in stable condition.
Following this accident, authorities took quick action. The Deputy Chief Minister of the state ordered the suspension of an official named Satyajit Salve, who was the Executive Engineer responsible for the site. This decision was made to hold the responsible person accountable and to prevent future accidents.
In addition, penalties were imposed on the companies involved in the construction. A financial fine of 5 crore rupees was given to the contractor, RAJV Milan Infra. The General Consultant team, which includes several engineering companies, received a penalty of 1 crore rupees. These actions are part of the efforts to ensure safety standards are met.
Moreover, five employees connected to the project were arrested. Their names are Harish Chauhan, Kuldeep Sapkal, Saurabh Singh, Prashant Bhoir, and Avdhoot Inamdar. They hold roles such as Project Director, Project Manager, Deputy Manager, and Supervisor. The arrests show that authorities are investigating whether mistakes or negligence occurred during construction.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) responded by ordering a special safety check across the entire Metro 4 corridor. This safety inspection aims to identify and address any other potential issues in the ongoing construction. The MMRDA also announced that it will cover the medical expenses for those hurt in the accident.
A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate what caused the parapet segment to fall. This investigation will help determine the specific reasons behind the collapse. The Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed deep grief over the incident and assured that the government would conduct a thorough investigation.
