Final Voter List Released in Assam for Special Revision 2026
The Election Commission of India has published the final voter list for Assam following a comprehensive review process. The list includes details about the total number of voters and steps taken to ensure accuracy before upcoming elections.
The Election Commission of India has announced the final voter list for Assam, marking the end of a detailed process called Special Revision 2026. This revision involved reviewing and updating the electoral roll across all 126 Assembly constituencies in the state. The purpose of this revision was to ensure that only eligible voters are included and that voter information is accurate.
The final list was published on February 10, 2026. It shows a total of 2,49,58,139 voters in Assam. This number is slightly less than the draft list, which had recorded 2,52,01,624 voters. The decrease of 2,43,485 voters happened after removing ineligible or duplicate entries during the verification process.
The list provides a gender-wise breakdown of voters. There are 1,24,82,213 male voters and 1,24,75,583 female voters. In addition, there are 343 voters classified under the third-gender category. These figures reflect the demographic makeup of voters in Assam.
The process leading to this final list involved several steps. First, a draft voter list was published for public review on December 27, 2025. Citizens had the opportunity to check their details and raise objections if needed. Between November 22 and December 20, 2025, a house-to-house verification drive was conducted across the state to update voter records.
Following the draft publication, the period for filing claims and objections was open from December 27, 2025, until January 22, 2026. During this time, voters, political parties, and other stakeholders could suggest changes or report issues with the voter list. The Election Commission then reviewed these claims and objections, disposing of invalid entries and confirming accurate details.
Once the verification and correction process was complete, the final voter list was prepared. The commission emphasizes that the Special Revision aims to maintain an accurate and up-to-date electoral roll. This effort helps ensure that only eligible voters are registered and that voter information is current for upcoming elections.
If citizens find discrepancies or wish to challenge the final list, they can appeal to the District Magistrate within 15 days of the publication. If still unsatisfied, they can submit a second appeal to the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days.
The Special Revision, as described by election authorities, balances between the annual special summary revision and the more comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR). It is designed to be more thorough than the standard yearly updates but less extensive than the SIR, ensuring steady maintenance of the voter list.
In addition to Assam, the Election Commission is handling similar processes in other states. For instance, extending the deadline for final publication in West Bengal to February 28, 2026, has been ordered by the Election Commission. This extension was granted after a Supreme Court order, which allowed the scrutiny period to be increased by seven days. The final publication in West Bengal was initially scheduled for February 14, 2026, but is now set for February 28.
The final voter list in Assam reflects the completion of all verification, claims, and objections processes. These steps are crucial for creating a trustworthy electoral process, helping voters and authorities to have confidence in the electoral roll.
Understanding that the process involves careful review and verification underscores its importance. It ensures that only valid voters are registered and helps prevent electoral fraud or errors. Ultimately, accurate voter registration supports fair and smooth elections, which are vital for democratic governance.
The Assam voter list is a key part of preparing for future elections, and the steps taken reflect a commitment to transparency and accuracy. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the process, especially if they wish to verify their details or file any objections. The Election Commission continues to oversee and update voter data to support a healthy democratic process in Assam and across India.
