Introduction of NCMC Smart Card by MSRTC
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) introduced the RuPay On-The-Go National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on April 1, 2026. The launch was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aiming to bring digital improvements to public bus transport in Maharashtra, making it more convenient and transparent for users.
Smart Card Distribution for Different Passenger Groups
Under this scheme, smart cards enabled with NCMC, linked to Aadhaar, will be given to various groups such as students, senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities. These cards will make it easier to access fare discounts and tickets seamlessly. During the launch, cards were distributed to representatives of different categories to symbolize inclusivity.
Registration Network and Accessibility
Smart card registration and distribution will happen at all MSRTC depots and bus stations. Additionally, about 3,000 authorized centers across Maharashtra will facilitate the process. This extensive network ensures quick and easy access for passengers, encouraging widespread adoption.
Digital Payment and Recharge Options
The smart card will serve as a prepaid wallet, with a minimum recharge of Rs 100. Passengers can recharge their cards through various methods, including ETIM machines on buses, official websites, mobile apps, and authorized agents. The card costs Rs 199, making it affordable for everyday commuters.
