The UP government announced a phased increase in minimum wages starting from April 1. Unskilled workers in Noida and Ghaziabad will see wages rise by up to 21%, from ₹11,313 to ₹13,690 per month. In municipal areas, wages will increase by approximately 15% to ₹13,006, while other regions will have a 9% rise to ₹12,356. For semi-skilled workers in Noida and Ghaziabad, wages are revised from ₹12,445 to ₹15,059. Skilled workers will now earn ₹16,668, up from ₹13,940. This is an interim step till a broader wage review is completed.
Clarification on Wage Claims
The government clarified that there is no fixed minimum wage of ₹20,000. Officials stated no instructions have been issued for such a wage and urged workers and employers not to believe false reports. This clarification aims to reduce confusion that had fuelled unrest among workers.
