Family of 25-year-old, who fell into pit in Delhi, were waiting to cut an anniversary cake at home while he lost his life
A 25-year-old man lost his life after falling into an unmarked pit in Delhi. The incident has raised safety concerns in the area, and authorities are taking steps to address the issue.
On the early morning of February 6, 2026, Kamal Dhyani, a young man age 25, died after he fell into a deep pit while riding his motorcycle in Janakpuri, West Delhi. Kamal was employed at a call center linked to a private bank, and he was riding his motorcycle, which he had bought with his own savings a year earlier. His family describes him as a cheerful and hardworking person who was trying to build a better future.
The incident happened around 12:50 AM. According to reports, Kamal called his twin brother and told him he would arrive home in about 15 minutes. After that call, Kamal stopped answering his phone. His family searched for him throughout the night, waiting for a celebratory moment. They had plans to mark their parents’ wedding anniversary with a cake at midnight.
However, they could not reach Kamal and spent the night worried. The next morning, the police informed the family that Kamal’s body and his motorcycle had been found in a 15-foot-deep pit. The police stated that Kamal had fallen into this unmarked pit while riding his motorcycle. His family expressed their grief and sadness, explaining they never imagined a joyful day would turn into a tragic loss.
Kamal’s family includes two priests—his father and elder brother—and his twin brother, Karan, who is preparing for Chartered Accountancy exams. The family was waiting to celebrate their special day, but instead faced a terrible tragedy.
Following the accident, the family criticized the authorities for failing to help in their search. They alleged that police assistance was inadequate during their efforts to find Kamal. The family has now demanded access to CCTV footage of the area to understand how the accident happened and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In response to the incident, an FIR was registered under charges of culpable homicide against the contractor responsible for the site and officials from the Delhi Jal Board. Three engineers from the Delhi Jal Board were suspended. The authorities have taken these steps to address potential negligence.
Residents and workers along the Janakpuri stretch have raised concerns about the safety of the area. They reported that the particular section lacked proper safety measures, warning signs, and sufficient lighting, which may have contributed to the accident. These issues highlight a need for better safety standards to protect people in the area.
Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, described the incident as “murder, not accident.” His statement emphasizes the seriousness of the negligence involved in creating or maintaining unsafe infrastructure. This has sparked discussions on the importance of safety in public spaces.
The local community and Kamal’s friends remember him as a lively, positive person who was working hard to improve his life. They expressed their sorrow and sympathy, hoping such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
This incident draws attention to ongoing safety concerns in urban areas where unmarked or poorly maintained construction sites pose risks to residents and workers. It also underscores the importance of timely police assistance and public safety measures.
The family continues to mourn their loss and has called for authorities to take immediate action. They believe that increased safety measures, clear signage, and surveillance can help prevent similar accidents, saving lives in the future.
This tragic event reminds us that safety is vital in our daily lives. It also highlights the need for better infrastructure management and community awareness to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
