An IndiGo flight traveling from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai early Saturday morning following a serious security scare involving a bomb threat, airport officials confirmed.
IndiGo Flight Diverted Amid Bomb Threat
The incident began when the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad received a threatening email around 5:30 am. The message warned authorities to "prevent landing of IndiGo flight in Hyderabad" and claimed the flight carried a "human bomb".
The threat email, reportedly referencing a "1984 Madras Airport Modus operandi style blast," claimed that LTTE-ISI operatives were onboard and planning a major attack. Upon receiving the warning, officials quickly acted to divert IndiGo flight 6E 68, which was originally on its way to Hyderabad.
Safe Landing and Security Checks in Mumbai
The aircraft safely landed in Mumbai, where stringent security protocols were immediately put into place. Authorities conducted thorough checks of the plane and passengers before clearing the flight for further operations.
A spokesperson from IndiGo stated, “A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1, and the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai. Following the established protocol, we informed the relevant authorities immediately and fully cooperated with them in carrying out the necessary security checks before the aircraft is cleared for further operations”.
Investigation Underway
Security agencies are now investigating the origin and credibility of the email, although no explosives or suspicious materials have been reported at this time. The incident has put authorities on high alert, with additional caution expected for incoming flights in the region.
The safety of passengers and crew was prioritized throughout the emergency response, and the flight’s swift diversion is credited with averting any potential risk.
