The Madhya Pradesh government has launched a statewide ‘Clean Water Campaign’ (Swachh Jal Abhiyan) to ensure the supply of safe and clean drinking water to every household. The initiative was inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Yadav, who connected with officials and public representatives through a video conference.
The campaign comes at a time when water safety has become a serious concern in several areas of the state. Stressing the importance of public health, the Chief Minister said that providing clean drinking water is a top priority and that any negligence in this mission will not be tolerated.
Focus on Safe Drinking Water
Dr. Yadav directed officials to ensure regular cleaning of water tanks, proper maintenance of pipelines, and frequent testing of water quality. He said modern technology should be used to identify problems like leakage, contamination, and faulty connections at an early stage.
The campaign will be implemented in two phases. During these phases, water treatment plants, overhead tanks, and distribution systems across cities and villages will be inspected, cleaned, and repaired wherever required.
Use of Technology and Monitoring
To strengthen monitoring, the government will use GIS-based systems and mobile applications. These tools will help in mapping water supply and sewer pipelines, identifying risky zones, and preventing mixing of dirty water with drinking water lines.
Officials have been instructed to maintain detailed records and ensure timely action on every issue related to water supply.
‘Jal Sunwai’ for Public Complaints
An important part of the campaign is ‘Jal Sunwai’, a weekly public hearing where citizens can directly raise drinking water-related complaints. These hearings will be held every Tuesday. In addition, people can also register complaints through the CM Helpline 181, with a clear timeline for resolution.
Warning Against Negligence
The Chief Minister made it clear that officers or employees found careless in implementing the campaign will face strict disciplinary action. He said the campaign is not just an administrative task but a responsibility towards the health and safety of citizens.
Aim of the Campaign
The Clean Water Campaign aims to:
Prevent waterborne diseases
Improve overall public health
Build a reliable and safe drinking water system
Increase accountability in water management
With this initiative, the Madhya Pradesh government hopes to create a strong and sustainable system for clean drinking water, ensuring a healthier future for people across the state.
