Seychelles President Visits India to Strengthen Ties and Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomacy

The President of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, arrived in India for an official visit as part of a mission from February 3 to 10, 2026. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. During his stay, President Herminie will meet with key officials, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in New Delhi. This visit follows engagements in Chennai and Mumbai, where the President interacted with various Indian stakeholders. In New Delhi, he participated in significant discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations. On February 9, 2026, President Herminie arrived in New Delhi after his engagements in other Indian cities. The same day, he paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, reflecting the importance of the shared values and history between the countries. Later, he held meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, where they discussed bilateral relations and regional issues. During these talks, the leaders also attended a joint press conference to share their views on future cooperation. President Herminie also invited Prime Minister Modi to be the guest of honour at Seychelles' 50th Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the strong friendship between the two nations. As part of the visit, India announced a new economic package of 175 million US dollars for Seychelles. This support aims to assist various projects in social housing, e-mobility, vocational training, health, defence, and maritime security. The plan is designed to help Seychelles develop its social infrastructure and strengthen its maritime safety and security capabilities. Additionally, India welcomed Seychelles as a full member of the Colombo Security Conclave. This forum is an important platform for regional cooperation on defence and maritime security, and Seychelles' inclusion emphasizes the growing partnership in regional security efforts. The President of Seychelles is accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Véronique Herminie, during this official visit.
